Hspice Options (Please Synopsys!)

The "HSPICE (R) Simulation and Analysis User Guide" doesn't have the full list of options. WTH!!

Thankfully, I'm not the first person to notice this. We have a nicely organized list here :

Lehigh University - the light in Pennsylvania's darkness.

Believe it or not, they even fix some of Synopsys's errors - for Eg, the manual, on pg 61 says ".OPTION LENNAM defines the length of names in printouts (default=16).

Liars! Lehigh tells you 8 and they're right.

HP ScanJet 5370C

Image creation breaking down miserably in greyscale mode with 75 dpi resolution. Consider :

This is the page I'm trying to scan in (shown here at 150 dpi, color, no problems):

That costs 213kB though. The content is not so hot, so I'm happy with 75 dpi, greyscale. However, when I try that, HP gives me :

Yuck! 42 kB of junk.

However, if I do a preview with color mode and then, after the preview is done, I choose custom settings with 75 dpi and greyscale, the image comes out fine. What gives?

Problem with a Hewlett Packard product.

Workaround - use preview, then scan in Custom, then, hit the back button and change the object, and do "Next" - in essence - keep that one dialog open forever and you'll be cranking like Nanking.

Hspice and analogLib VCVS

This one needs to be fixed asap. Hspice ignores the voltage gain setting specified in the properties form and only does gain of one. Very frustrating. Thank god for veriloga though. Actually, it is only the netlister. So it could just be Cadence and not Synopsys at fault. Someone, please help.

Nedit on MAC OS

Directory descend in the FIle Save-As menu seems broken.

Also, when you have All Selected, you can't do Alt-R - it replaces your selection with (R). And if you go via the menu, you end up deselecting everything.

Better Cadence

Ah, so it works fine on the LAN. X over a WAN is not going to be like
working on the LAN. Even smaller things than cadence are going to have
some latency, you're not going to get around that. If you are going to
load X apps from home to anywhere, you have to have a different
expectation. I'm patient, 30 seconds is not a killer to my workflow, so
it may be merely a user expectation issue here. Thanks for the follow
up.
